Product description

Potassium acetate is generally used in laboratory routines. It can be used as a salt for ethanol precipitation of DNA and in molecular biology applications, potassium acetate precipitates sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and SDS-bound proteins to allow their removal from DNA.

Medicago’s Potassium Acetate Reagent is ≥ 99% pure and supplied as pre-weighed powder in sealed pouches, giving 1000 ml of 3 M or 5 M potassium acetate when dissolved in deionized water.

• Precipitation of DNA
• In mixtures for tissue preservation and fixation

Directions for use

Empty one pouch of the potassium acetate reagent in a laboratory flask or beaker placed on a magnetic stirrer. Add 200 ml to 300 ml of deionized water and stir the solution for a few minutes. Adjust the volume up to 1000 ml, stir until full dissolution and the solution is ready to use.

Shipping and storage

The potassium acetate reagent is shipped at room temperature. Store the pouches in a dry place at room temperature. Shelf life is three years after production date.
